NASA and Space

02 Mar

I read an article today and the theme consisted of derogatory comments directed to NASA and our exploration of outer space. For all of the faults that NASA may or may not have, the exploration of space benefits all of humankind. Just the tremendous challenge it creates, forces us to use our creative intelligence to produce new technology to achieve those goals.

Many of the everyday tools we use and take for granted was the result of human exploration efforts that date back to our ancient ancestors. For this reason alone it necessary to continue exploring outer space and to pay tribute to those brave men and women who sacrificed themselves in the name of science.

On a personal level I am a big fan of space exploration, mainly as it is the ultimate destiny of humanity to keep on exploring, past this small blue dot.

Unfortunately, as a species, we have decided to have many competing space programs, due to the fact they are the extension of various countries’ military programs. As humans we will truly achieve great things and leave the boundaries of this solar system once we decide to pool our resources.

But finally, NASA is really the only game player in terms of space. The Russian are great for supplying the ISS, but essentially can go no further, living off old technology. The Chinese are yet to prove themselves, and the Indian and European Space projects are fairly small. For all of NASA’a faults (a bloated bureaucracy for one), it does a hell of a lot of good in expanding humanity’s knowledge. More discoveries of the Cosmos comes from NASA and due to its longer term projects than nay other space agency.
