Bull!

It would be so much nicer if those humans would keep their cars away from our farm, I mean, like how are we supposed to relax?

Hawaii, Lava Tube

Behind us is the entrance of a vacant Lava Tube. Lava tubes are natural tunnels where lava flows underneath the ground, in may cases for miles. When the eruption is finished the tubes run dry and leave behind tunnels that look man-made. This is caused by low viscosity lava. It forms a hard crust that gets thicker and thicker, while lava is flowing inside it.

It was mind boggling to walk through something that once was filled with liquid rock.

Hilo, HI

Obviously I cannot read. Danger or no danger we traveled over the old lava field to the black beach. It was an incredible experience. The part I’m standing on used to be about 20 feet of ocean water. The actual water is now about a mile further and is black lava rock as far as you can see. But life is already making a come back. Mother nature is incredible.

Punalu’u Beach Park is the most famous black sand beach on the island.  This black sand beach is the most expansive and most accessible black sand beach on the Big Island.  There is a trail that you take from the road, to the ocean. On this trail you will see small palm trees all over the hardened lava. We met the man responsible for this. Each month he takes a dozen children or so on a tour and they plant the palm trees. He said he does this so one day in the future they will look back and remember what the lava flow did to their town, and how they helped regenerate the land by planting new life in an otherwise barren wasteland.

Across the road there is a small food stand and a bar. They have photos of what the town looked like before, during and after the lava flow swept through–maybe that should be oozed through?

The photo below is the black beach, too bad there were no sea turtles, I really wanted to see them.
